April 9th

Prompt: something big and small

My Baby Niece

potatoes for cheeks and bright

onyx eyes – she peeks at us from

from under her smiley sun blanket

with a grumpy, concerned pout.

then she promptly falls asleep

and dreams of milk and cuddles. I lie awake thinking about the

state of our country and it’s immense

hatred for little girls

April 10th

Prompt: multiple things happening at once

My Place of Residence, 2018

While they attended a billion dollar one-night yacht party,

the blue-collars lived in cramped rooms reeking of fear and desperation.

While they spent the country’s money on a meaningless war,

the debts they owed went unpaid and millions of good people who’ve

worked here all their lives packed up and left to nothing and nowhere.

While they plan their next luxury vacation to the Maldives,

we’re counting pennies for the freedom to live.
