A abstract of a psychological study tells me that
ratings of attractiveness are consistent across
different cultures
Well, there goes Dove’s beauty campaign and all our
tired cliches on the subjectivity of beauty. Still, I am
reminded of the legend of Helen of Troy –
Said to be the most beautiful woman on Earth and
yet there are no descriptions of her. Homer knew this well:
Every man creates his own Helen of Troy.
And even if we are marionettes, slaves to our natures,
what other species can resist the siren’s call? Who else has preferred death over slavery?
We’ve never been ones to follow the rules. Give us the
limitless possibilities of ugliness. Spare us the rigidity of
beauty. We are like the universe – infinite.
